Culture Night 2015

Culture Night in Belfast attracts around 60-70,000 people to Cathedral Quarter and the surrounding area.

The arts, though, have been disappearing from the annual programme in recent years as the funding cuts have increased. The Beat Initiative have not been able to do their usual carnival because they couldn’t afford it. Belfast Print Workshop, which had been with Culture Night Belfast since the very start, also bowed out and many individual artists and musicians have followed. Whilst the event does bring in revenue for the bars and restaurants, the arts have continued to provide free entrance to events since the start. Without public subsidy that has become unsustainable.

More documentation of Culture Night may be found in the Northern Visions archives.
