A Tour Of The Half Bap

Joe Baker, historian, takes the public on a tour of the Half Bap, more latterly known as Cathedral Quarter, in Belfast in 2004.

Part of Cathedral Quarter, centred on Talbot Street behind the Cathedral, was formerly called the Half Bap. This includes the area that the MAC Arts Centre occupies today and the Ramada Encore Hotel.

Some people believed it should have retained its former name rather than have been renamed the Cathedral Quarter. References to this are seen at the Duke of York Bar.

The “Little Italy” area was on the opposite side of Great Patrick Street centred on Little Patrick Street and Nelson Street.

First broadcast August 11th 2004.
